DevOps for Media Streaming
Streaming platforms need infrastructure that transcodes media efficiently, delivers adaptive bitrate streams globally, handles concurrent viewer spikes, and protects content with DRM. We implement the complete streaming infrastructure stack — from ingest to playback — with the DevOps practices that keep it running reliably at scale.

Streaming Infrastructure Stack
A production streaming platform needs: media ingest (upload or live capture), transcoding pipeline (multiple resolutions and codecs), adaptive bitrate packaging (HLS/DASH), CDN distribution for global reach, DRM for content protection, player configuration, and analytics for playback quality monitoring. We implement each layer with appropriate scaling and redundancy.
Transcoding Pipeline
We deploy FFmpeg-based transcoding workers on GPU instances (NVENC) or CPU instances depending on cost/speed tradeoffs. Uploaded content is automatically transcoded into multiple resolution ladders (360p to 4K) and codecs (H.264 for compatibility, H.265/VP9 for efficiency, AV1 for next-gen). Transcoding jobs scale horizontally with queue depth. Progress tracking and webhook notifications keep your application informed.
Adaptive Bitrate Delivery
HLS and DASH manifests reference multiple quality levels. Players automatically switch based on viewer bandwidth. We configure segment duration, playlist types (VOD vs. live), and codec fallback chains for maximum device compatibility. Low-latency HLS (LL-HLS) reduces live stream latency to 2–4 seconds. CMAF packaging enables single-encode, dual-manifest delivery for both HLS and DASH.
CDN & Edge Distribution
Media segments are distributed via CDN (CloudFront, Cloudflare, or Fastly) with origin shield to protect transcoding infrastructure. Multi-CDN strategies provide fallback and geographic optimization. Token authentication prevents hotlinking. Cache warming pre-distributes popular content to edge locations before premiere events.
Live Streaming
For live streaming, we deploy RTMP/SRT ingest servers that receive streams from OBS, hardware encoders, or mobile apps. Live transcoding produces adaptive bitrate outputs in real time. DVR functionality enables rewind and catch-up. Redundant ingest servers prevent stream drops. Automatic recording creates VOD assets from live streams.
