Geographic Routing Design
We map your user base geography to your infrastructure regions. Route 53 geolocation routing, Cloudflare load balancing with geo-steering, or PowerDNS GeoIP backend direct users to the nearest healthy endpoint. Continent-level routing (EU → eu-west, Asia → ap-southeast) covers most use cases; country-level routing handles data sovereignty requirements. Default records catch users from unmapped regions.
Latency-Based Optimization
Geographic proximity doesn't always mean lowest latency — network topology matters. Latency-based routing (Route 53 latency records, Cloudflare latency steering) measures actual RTT from DNS resolver locations to your endpoints. Users get routed to the genuinely fastest endpoint, not just the geographically closest. We benchmark routing decisions against synthetic monitoring data to validate accuracy.
Data Sovereignty & Compliance
GDPR, LGPD, and other regulations require user data to stay within specific jurisdictions. GeoDNS ensures EU users hit EU endpoints, Brazilian users hit Brazilian endpoints. We configure routing with compliance boundaries as hard constraints — no fallback to non-compliant regions. Monitoring verifies that routing decisions respect sovereignty requirements, with alerts on any policy violations.
Monitoring & Accuracy
We deploy synthetic monitoring from global locations to verify routing accuracy — confirm that a probe from Frankfurt resolves to eu-west, Tokyo resolves to ap-northeast. EDNS Client Subnet (ECS) support ensures DNS resolvers pass client subnet information for more accurate geographic routing. Dashboards show traffic distribution by region, and alerts fire when a region receives unexpected traffic patterns.
