Network Path Optimization

CDN edge servers reduce the distance between users and your content. Anycast routing ensures DNS and static content serve from the nearest PoP. For dynamic content, smart routing (Cloudflare Argo, AWS Global Accelerator) optimizes the path between edge and origin — avoiding congested internet routes. We measure latency from real user locations (RUM data) to identify where the worst latency is and target optimizations there.

Protocol & Transport Optimization

HTTP/2 multiplexing eliminates head-of-line blocking for parallel requests. HTTP/3 (QUIC) reduces connection establishment to 0-RTT for repeat visitors. TLS 1.3 cuts one round trip from the handshake. TCP tuning (initial congestion window, keepalive settings, buffer sizes) optimizes for your traffic pattern. Each protocol change gets benchmarked — not all optimizations help all workloads.

Connection Management

Connection pooling between your reverse proxy and backends avoids repeated TCP+TLS handshakes (each saves 1-3 round trips). Keep-alive settings prevent premature connection teardown. Connection pre-warming ensures backends are ready before traffic arrives. For database connections, PgBouncer or ProxySQL pools connections efficiently. We measure connection establishment time and pool utilization to right-size the configuration.

Measurement & Benchmarking

Every optimization gets measured: synthetic monitoring from multiple locations (Catchpoint, Grafana k6), real user monitoring (RUM), and server-side timing headers. We track TTFB (Time to First Byte), FCP (First Contentful Paint), and custom application metrics. Before/after comparisons show exactly what each optimization contributed.
