RTO/RPO Planning and Implementation
RTO and RPO are not checkbox exercises — they are architecture decisions that determine your infrastructure costs, backup strategy, and failover topology. We help you define realistic targets and then implement the infrastructure to actually meet them.

Business Impact Analysis
We map every service in your stack to its business impact: revenue per hour of downtime, data loss tolerance, regulatory requirements, and customer SLA commitments. A payment processing API that handles $50K/hour has very different requirements than an internal reporting dashboard. This analysis produces concrete RTO/RPO targets for each service tier — not one-size-fits-all numbers picked from a vendor whitepaper.
Architecture Mapping
Each RTO/RPO target maps to a specific infrastructure pattern. Zero RPO requires synchronous replication (PostgreSQL synchronous standby, Aurora Multi-AZ). Sub-minute RPO uses asynchronous streaming replication or WAL archiving. One-hour RPO works with periodic snapshots. RTO under 5 minutes requires hot standby with automated failover. RTO under 1 hour works with warm standby. We map targets to implementations with cost estimates for each tier.
Implementation and Automation
We build the infrastructure to meet your targets. This typically includes: database replication topology, backup scheduling and storage, automated failover scripts, health check endpoints, DNS failover configuration, and monitoring dashboards showing current RPO (replication lag) and estimated RTO (last measured failover time). Everything is codified in Terraform or Pulumi — reproducible and auditable.
Validation and Continuous Measurement
We validate targets through DR drills: simulate failures, measure actual recovery time, verify data integrity post-recovery. Dashboards show real-time RPO (replication lag) and historical RTO measurements. If actual metrics drift from targets — replication lag spikes, failover takes longer than expected — alerts fire. RTO/RPO targets are living commitments backed by infrastructure, not aspirational numbers in a slide deck.
