Self-hosting a podcast on bulletproof infrastructure eliminates dependency on platforms that can demonetize, shadow-ban, or remove content at will:
- Media storage: Audio files stored on your bulletproof server. A one-hour podcast episode in MP3 at 128kbps is approximately 55MB. 1TB storage holds approximately 18,000 hours of podcast audio.
- RSS feed: Your own RSS feed URL on your own domain, not controlled by any platform.
- CDN: For high-traffic podcasts, combine bulletproof origin storage with Cloudflare or similar CDN for global distribution without giving the CDN control over your content.
- Analytics: Self-hosted analytics (Matomo, umami) without dependency on platform analytics that can be cut off.
