Encryption Truth
Files at rest: not encrypted unless you turn on server-side encryption (server still holds the key) or End to End Encryption (per folder, breaks previews/search). Notes app: not E2EE. Calendar and contacts: not E2EE. Talk text chat: server can read (the messages are stored plaintext). Talk audio/video: P2P or via HPB SFU. Treat Nextcloud as control-the-server, not zero-knowledge, unless you explicitly enable E2EE per folder.
S3 Primary
Optional for above 1 TB. Bring your own S3 (Wasabi, B2, MinIO). Metadata stays on the compute VPS in MariaDB.
