Supabase Self-Hosted on Offshore VPS

Supabase is the open-source Firebase alternative built on PostgreSQL, providing authentication, instant REST and GraphQL APIs, realtime subscriptions, object storage and edge functions. Supabase Cloud runs on AWS in US regions. Self-hosting Supabase on our offshore VPS gives you the same developer experience with full control over the database, the auth provider, the storage backend and the API gateway, all running on NVMe storage with dedicated RAM in Iceland, Romania or the Netherlands. You deploy via the official docker-compose stack with full root access.

Start a Brief

Docker Stack and Resource Sizing

The official Supabase docker-compose stack runs nine containers, PostgreSQL, PostgREST, GoTrue auth, Realtime, Storage, Kong gateway, Studio dashboard, Meta API and Edge Functions runtime. A typical small deployment fits comfortably on a 4 GB RAM VPS, while production workloads with significant traffic want 8 to 16 GB or more. NVMe storage matters most for the underlying PostgreSQL, where the buffer pool and WAL writes dominate IO. Our VPS plans give you dedicated RAM and CPU for each container, with no noisy neighbor contention. You install the stack with git clone and docker compose up.

Auth, Storage and Realtime Privacy

Supabase Cloud stores your user authentication data, your uploaded files and your realtime connection metadata on AWS in US regions, exposed to US compulsory production orders. Self-hosting on our offshore VPS keeps every byte of auth, storage and realtime data on a server you control in Iceland, Romania or the Netherlands. The GoTrue auth service supports email signup, magic links, OAuth providers and JWT tokens with the same API surface as Supabase Cloud. The Storage service uses S3-compatible buckets backed by local NVMe disk or by external object storage you configure with your own credentials.

Edge Functions and Crypto Billing

The Edge Functions runtime is a Deno-based serverless layer that runs your TypeScript functions in response to HTTP requests, database events or scheduled triggers. Self-hosted, the runtime lives on your VPS with no per-invocation metering and no cold start latency penalty from a shared multi-tenant platform. Combined with crypto-only billing for the underlying VPS, your Supabase deployment has no commercial paper trail, no credit card link, no KYC at signup. Backups via pg_dump or via the Supabase CLI can replicate to a second offshore VPS in a different country for disaster recovery.
