Email Hosting

Offshore Private Email Hosting — US Customer Guide

Running your own email server on offshore infrastructure is one of the most meaningful privacy upgrades available. Unlike Gmail, Outlook, or even ProtonMail (which, despite its protections, is still subject to Swiss legal process), a self-hosted email server under your control stores and delivers your mail without any third party in the loop. AnubizHost VPS plans are specifically tuned for email-server deployment — clean IPs with good reputation, reverse DNS control, full inbound and outbound port access, and offshore jurisdictions that insulate your mail from US PATRIOT Act reach. Plans start at $24.90/mo and support one-click Mail-in-a-Box or Mailcow installation.

Why Self-Host Email Offshore

Email remains one of the most surveillance-exposed surfaces of modern digital life. Gmail parses every message for advertising signals (and, for a long time, for training data). Microsoft 365 is subject to US CLOUD Act requests on data stored anywhere globally. Even privacy-focused providers like ProtonMail, Tutanota, and StartMail operate in jurisdictions subject to their own legal frameworks — better than Gmail, but still ultimately under some government's legal reach.

Self-hosted email on offshore infrastructure gives you the full privacy upside: no provider can read your mail because there is no provider (other than your hosting provider at the infrastructure layer, which does not have application-layer access). No provider can hand over your archive because there is no provider archive. Your mail lives on disk on your server, encrypted at rest if you configure it that way, and that is the end of the story.

The tradeoff is operational complexity — running a mail server is harder than signing up for Gmail. But modern tools (Mail-in-a-Box, Mailcow, Maddy) have dramatically lowered the bar. For US customers serious about email privacy, a $24.90/mo offshore VPS running Mail-in-a-Box is a weekend project that produces a durable privacy upgrade.

Hosting Email at AnubizHost — Technical Requirements

Email hosting has specific infrastructure requirements that not all hosting providers meet. You need: a static public IPv4 with clean reputation (not on spam blocklists), the ability to set reverse DNS (PTR records) for the IP, full outbound access on port 25 (which many cloud providers block by default to prevent spam abuse), inbound access on port 25, 465, 587, 993, 995, and ideally a static IPv6 as well for modern mail delivery.

AnubizHost's VPS plans meet all these requirements by default. Every VPS ships with a clean IP (we monitor our IP blocks for reputation issues and rotate out blocks that land on major blocklists). Reverse DNS is customer-controlled via the dashboard. Outbound port 25 is open by default — we accept the operational responsibility of mail-server hosting rather than punting it to every customer who happens to want email.

For IPv6, every VPS gets a /64 subnet that can be used for multiple mail-server identities if desired. Dedicated servers get larger IPv6 allocations, useful for customers running multi-domain mail infrastructure.

We also support multiple IPv4 addresses per server (at additional cost), useful for customers running mail-server + web-server on the same VPS with clean separation, or running multiple mail identities on the same machine.

Email Hosting Plan Pricing

The mid-tier VPS at $24.90/mo is our recommended starting point for self-hosted email. Four CPU cores, 8 GB RAM, 80 GB NVMe, and 4 TB monthly bandwidth is plenty for a single-user or small-team Mail-in-a-Box or Mailcow deployment. For higher-volume mail (multi-user teams, small businesses, heavy automation), the large tier at $52.90/mo delivers 8 CPU / 16 GB / 160 GB / 8 TB bandwidth.

PlanSpecsMail Use CasePrice
Mid VPS4 CPU / 8 GB / 80 GB NVMePersonal/small team, Mail-in-a-Box$24.90/mo
Large VPS8 CPU / 16 GB / 160 GB NVMeMulti-user team, Mailcow with spam filtering$52.90/mo
Dedicated StarterXeon E-2388G / 64 GB / 2x 1TB NVMeSmall business, high-volume automation$89/mo

The entry VPS at $17.90/mo can technically run Mail-in-a-Box but is tight on RAM for Mailcow's Docker-heavy stack; we recommend stepping up to the mid-tier for anything but the lightest mail workloads.

One-Click Mail Stack Installation

On request during provisioning, we pre-install one of the common mail stacks: Mail-in-a-Box (simpler, opinionated, easier for single-domain users), Mailcow (more flexible, Docker-based, better for multi-domain setups), or raw Postfix + Dovecot + Rspamd (for customers who want full control over the stack). We also support Maddy (modern Go-based all-in-one), Stalwart, and Docker-based Haraka for customers with specific preferences.

Post-installation, the customer is responsible for ongoing mail-server operational duties: TLS certificate renewal (we pre-configure Let's Encrypt), DNS record management (SPF, DKIM, DMARC), spam filter tuning, and user/domain management. Our support team can assist with any of these during business hours but does not operate the mail application stack day-to-day — the privacy benefit of self-hosting depends on you retaining application-level control.

For customers who want managed-email-with-offshore-jurisdiction, our Anubiz Labs DevOps division offers managed mail-server operations on a monthly contract. This is useful for small businesses that want the privacy benefits of self-hosted offshore email without the operational burden.

Why AnubizHost for Offshore Email

Self-hosted email is only as private as the infrastructure layer beneath it. If your mail server runs on a US VPS provider, your mail is vulnerable to PATRIOT Act requests regardless of whether you are using encryption at rest or in transit. The provider can be compelled to clone the disk, take memory snapshots via the hypervisor, or otherwise access your mail data through layers you do not control.

Offshore VPS hosting in a jurisdiction that does not cooperate with US surveillance requests changes this calculus. AnubizHost's VPS infrastructure in Iceland, Finland, Netherlands, Romania, and Bulgaria operates under legal frameworks where US legal process is not enforceable. Your mail server's data remains subject to local legal process, which in these jurisdictions is narrower, slower, and requires adversarial proceedings.

Combined with the technical email-server support (clean IPs, reverse DNS, port 25 open, IPv6 allocations), crypto billing, no-KYC signup, and DMCA-ignored policy, AnubizHost is the practical infrastructure choice for US customers who want to self-host email with genuine privacy. Start with the $24.90/mo mid-tier, deploy Mail-in-a-Box, and have a private mail setup running by the end of the afternoon.
