Proactive Content Documentation
Documentation created before publication is the strongest defense:
- Timestamped creation records. Use creation software that embeds timestamps in file metadata. Keep the original project files with creation dates. Take screenshots of work-in-progress with date stamps.
- Version control. Git repositories for written content and code provide irrefutable timestamped creation records. Each commit is cryptographically signed and timestamped.
- Copyright registration (US). Formal copyright registration with the US Copyright Office creates a public record and enables statutory damages (up to $150,000/infringement for willful infringement). Registration within 3 months of publication preserves these rights.
- License documentation. For licensed content, keep licenses in organized files accessible for quick counter-notice reference.

- DMCA-ignored jurisdictions. The most effective protection for content likely to be repeatedly targeted. Romania and Iceland hosting eliminates the takedown process entirely.
