Filecoin storage providers are not the same workload as IPFS pinning. SPs sign 12 to 18 month deals, commit storage capacity backed by FIL collateral, and earn block rewards plus deal revenue. The economics depend on three things: hardware cost per TB sealed, energy cost, and uptime. Romania scores well on the first two and the Anubiz dedicated server tier gives you 192-256 GB RAM with NVMe sector cache, which is the configuration the Lotus and Boost reference SP setups assume. What an SP Actually Needs
Lotus daemon: 32 GB RAM minimum, 64 GB recommended. Miner daemon: same. Boost (deal market layer): 16-32 GB. PC1 sealing worker: per-job RAM heavy, plan for 128 GB free during a sealing campaign. PC2 and Commit2 are GPU jobs but can also be CPU. Storage sectors live on NVMe or SATA SSD depending on hot vs cold split.
The minimum credible single-server SP setup is 192 GB RAM, AMD EPYC 7000-series or newer, 2 TB NVMe for cache plus 50-100 TB of large sector storage. The Anubiz Romania dedicated tier with EPYC 4564P at $369/mo plus storage expansion covers the entry path.
Sealing Pipeline
PC1 takes 3-5 hours per sector on EPYC. PC2 with GPU takes 20-40 minutes. Commit takes 20-30 minutes. The bottleneck on commodity hardware is PC1 RAM and storage IO. We provision NVMe sector cache and let you ship sealed sectors to lower-tier storage off-server.
For verified deals the throughput target is 1-2 TB per day sealed. With one EPYC node you hit this comfortably; scale-out comes via worker nodes against a single Lotus + Boost head.
Network and Peering
Filecoin SP responsibilities include staying reachable on the libp2p layer, serving Boost retrieval requests fast, and submitting WindowPoSt on schedule. Missing a WindowPoSt window costs collateral. We provide 1 Gbit symmetric with low jitter and dual upstream paths on the Romania dedicated tier; sustained outage on a single upstream does not interrupt PoSt.
Legal Posture
Romania allows Filecoin SP operations under standard hosting law. The token side (FIL collateral, block rewards) is your responsibility for tax and reporting in your residence jurisdiction. We do not file 1099s. EU implementation of MiCA affects exchange and custody, not SP operations.
