IPFS Pinning Service on an Anubiz Netherlands VPS
The Netherlands sits at the densest peering crossroads in Europe. Amsterdam Internet Exchange (AMS-IX) is the point where most European ASes terminate, which means an IPFS node hosted in Amsterdam reaches the largest practical share of European peers with a single hop. For pinning service operators the latency story is the main reason to choose NL: your Bitswap responses are fast because most of the requesting peers are next door. The trade-off is that the Netherlands has stricter intermediary obligations than Iceland; you serve takedown notices faster and document responses.

Why Amsterdam for IPFS
AMS-IX is the second largest IXP globally by volume. An IPFS node attached to a Dutch transit provider with peering at AMS-IX hits 80 percent of EU peers within 15 ms and Brazil-via-NL paths within 220 ms. For Bitswap negotiation rounds those numbers matter; every round-trip cost compounds across the want-list.
The Anubiz Netherlands VPS line uses transit blends that include AMS-IX peering plus Tier 1 fallback. We do not publish the upstreams, but the visible result is sub-15 ms RTT to all major EU clouds and 1 Gbit/s symmetric on the V tier.
Intermediary Liability and the DSA
The Netherlands implements the EU Digital Services Act through national law. As a hosting provider you fall under article 6 (no general monitoring obligation) and article 16 (Notice and Action mechanism). You must provide a way for affected parties to report illegal content and you must act on credible notices. Anubiz Host operates at the upstream layer; we forward NTD notices to you and expect you to act within a reasonable window.
For a pinning service this means the customer-facing TOS must include a reporting endpoint, a clear policy, and a logged response trail. We strongly recommend pseudonymous customer onboarding combined with clear content rules; this gives you defense against frivolous notices without exposing legitimate customers.
Storage Tiering on NL Tier
Standard Netherlands VPS V ships with 200 GB NVMe and supports up to 2 TB additional NVMe block storage. For larger pin sets we move you to the dedicated server tier with 4-8 TB enterprise NVMe. The hot/warm/cold tier split mentioned in the Romania page applies identically here.
Run badger v4 with GC weekly. Watch compaction lag during high-write windows.
Bitswap and Connection Manager
NL nodes typically maintain 1500-2500 active peer connections in a healthy pinning service workload. Set connection manager high water around 2400, low water 1500, grace 30s. Bitswap accelerated DHT client on, reprovider strategy roots, announce every 12-24 hours.
Migration and Internal Links
Migrating from Pinata, Filebase, or a self-hosted Hetzner box is the same exercise: export the pin set as CIDs, batch-pin against the new node, validate completeness, swap DNS or the API base URL in your client.
Internal: VPS lineup, anonymous hosting overview, dedicated server for >10 TB pin sets.
