Apple's iOS restrictions make a full Tor Browser impossible:
- WebKit requirement: Apple requires all iOS browsers to use the WebKit rendering engine. Tor Browser is based on Firefox (Gecko engine), which can't be ported to iOS.
- Limited customization: iOS doesn't allow the deep browser modifications that Tor Browser needs for fingerprint protection
- No extension support: Tor Browser relies on specific extensions (NoScript, etc.) that can't be replicated on iOS WebKit browsers
- Background restrictions: iOS limits background network activity, which can affect maintaining Tor circuits
This means any "Tor browser" on iOS is fundamentally less private than Tor Browser on Android or desktop. It's important to understand these limitations.
