Bitcoin Core Tor-Only Node Hosting
A Tor-only Bitcoin Core node hides both your inbound and outbound peer connections from clearnet observers. Slightly slower IBD, no IP exposure to network peers, full sovereignty. AnubizHost preconfigures Tor-only Bitcoin nodes on NVMe from $140/mo with no KYC.

What Tor-Only Means
Setting onlynet=onion and proxy=127.0.0.1:9050 in bitcoin.conf restricts Bitcoin Core to .onion peers only. Combined with listenonion=1 your node also publishes a hidden service so other Tor-only nodes can find you. No clearnet IP is ever exposed to the Bitcoin gossip network.
Trade-offs
IBD takes longer because Tor circuits have higher latency than direct connections. Practical impact: 24-48 hours for IBD instead of 16-20. Steady-state operation is unaffected; block arrivals over Tor are functionally equivalent to clearnet once your peers are stable.
You also lose access to historical IBD optimizations like UTXO snapshots from clearnet servers. Workaround: run a brief clearnet bootstrap, snapshot the chainstate, then flip to Tor-only.
Operational Pattern
We provision with Tor pre-installed and a working SocksPort on 9050. bitcoin.conf ships with Tor-only configured. You connect from your wallet via SSH over Tor for maximum end-to-end privacy.
Hardware Considerations
Tor-only does not reduce hardware requirements. You still need the full UTXO set in RAM, the full chain on disk (or pruned), and meaningful CPU during block arrival. Our standard 1TB / 16GB / 4-core spec covers Tor-only fine.
