Offshore Hosting for a Misskey Fediverse Instance
Misskey is a feature-rich fediverse server popular in Japan and increasingly elsewhere. Drive-style media storage, reactions, channels, and a polished UI distinguish it from Mastodon and Pleroma. The trade-off is more complex deployment and higher resource use than Pleroma. This page covers hosting Misskey on an Anubiz offshore VPS.
Need this done for your project?
We implement, you ship. Async, documented, done in days.
Misskey stack
Node.js application, Postgres, Redis, and optionally Meilisearch and object storage. Misskey grows faster than Pleroma but slower than Mastodon in resource use. A 100-user Misskey instance is comfortable on 4 vCPU 8 GB RAM and 160 GB NVMe. Drive (Misskey's media storage layer) can be configured for S3-compatible object storage to control disk growth.
Install path
The official install path uses Docker Compose. Misskey docs are clear. Plan a few hours for first install including Postgres tuning, Redis config, and reverse proxy with TLS. Updates are well documented; Misskey releases regularly.
Anubiz binding
Anubiz offshore VPS plans from $17.90/mo; Misskey-suitable plans from $39.90/mo. Romania, Netherlands, and Iceland are all good options. Crypto payment, no KYC. Internal links: /en/hosting-for-mastodon-instance-offshore, /en/hosting-for-pleroma-instance-offshore, /en/anonymous-vps.
Federation and moderation
Misskey supports the full ActivityPub federation surface. Instance moderation tools are rich. As with any fediverse server, the admin handles moderation policy and federation suspensions. We provide the substrate.
