MariaDB ships with InnoDB as the default transactional engine, plus Aria for crash-safe non-transactional tables, MyRocks for write-heavy compressed workloads, and ColumnStore for analytical queries. Each engine has different IO patterns, and NVMe storage keeps all of them performant. You configure innodb_file_per_table=ON to keep per-table tablespaces on separate files, place undo logs and redo logs on the same NVMe device, and never worry about disk contention. Schema migrations using ALTER TABLE ALGORITHM=INPLACE finish quickly because there is no virtualized disk layer adding latency between the engine and the physical media.
Galera Cluster for High Availability
MariaDB Galera Cluster provides synchronous multi-master replication across three or more nodes. Deploying a three-node Galera cluster across our Iceland, Romania and Netherlands VPS gives you true geographic high availability with no single point of failure and no risk of split brain because writes require quorum. Each node is configurable independently for cache sizing and IO scheduler, and the inter-node WAN latency is well within Galera tolerances for normal OLTP workloads. SST and IST transfers use NVMe local IO speed when joining new nodes, dramatically reducing rebuild times during recovery scenarios.
