Tor Hosting

Tor VPS Hosting in Romania

Running Tor infrastructure requires a provider that understands network privacy and won't auto-terminate on the first IP complaint. Romania VPS at Anubiz Host explicitly supports Tor relay operators, middle nodes, bridges, and exit nodes. Our Bucharest data center has 10 Gbps unmetered networking - critical for high-bandwidth Tor relays. Romania jurisdiction adds legal protection: no DMCA equivalent, court orders required for any action. Romania VPS I at $49.99/mo handles relay and bridge workloads; VPS II at $74.99/mo is recommended for exit nodes that generate more abuse traffic.

Start a Brief

Supported Tor Infrastructure Types

We support all standard Tor network roles:

  • Middle relays: Forward encrypted Tor traffic between nodes. No external traffic, minimal abuse complaints. Ideal entry point for new Tor operators.
  • Guard relays: Entry point into the Tor network for clients. Same operational profile as middle relays but higher consensus bandwidth weight.
  • Exit nodes: Forward traffic to the open internet on behalf of Tor users. Generates abuse complaints from scanning activity. We handle exit node complaints manually under our jurisdiction policy, not with auto-termination.
  • Bridges: Unlisted relays for censored users. Very low complaint volume. Especially useful given our CIS-market coverage (45-60ms to Moscow - good for Russian users accessing Tor).
  • Hidden services (.onion): Services accessible only through Tor. No external IP exposure, zero external complaints.

Romania Jurisdiction for Tor Operations

Romania doesn't honor extraterritorial DMCA requests. Takedowns require Romanian court orders following EU due process - not a one-line email from a copyright holder. This keeps content online unless there's actual legal cause.

Romania is not subject to Roskomnadzor censorship requests. Russia's internet regulator has historically pressured Tor infrastructure operators; Romanian servers are outside that regulatory reach. For Russian users accessing Tor through bridges or relays, Bucharest is both the lowest-latency EU location and the most legally protected.

Network Performance for Tor

Tor relay performance scales with bandwidth. Our Romania VPS specs for Tor operators:

  • 10 Gbps port per VPS (shared physical uplink, burst available)
  • 5 TB/month transfer cap on VPS I/II/IV; 4 TB on VPS III
  • Set RelayBandwidthRate to stay within your monthly allocation (15 Mbps sustained average = ~5 TB/month)
  • VPS I (2 vCPU) handles middle relay at 200+ Mbps before CPU bottleneck
  • VPS II (4 vCPU) handles exit node with higher circuit counts

How We Handle Exit Node Abuse Complaints

Our exit node complaint process: receive complaint about IP - verify IP is in Tor consensus as exit node - respond to complainant with standard Tor operator response (explaining shared-IP network architecture) - forward complaint to operator as FYI - take no further action unless there is a valid Romanian court order. We don't auto-suspend exit nodes. Manual review for every complaint. This requires more staff time per complaint but is the only operationally correct approach for Tor exit operators.
