Private .org Domain Registration for Activists and Operators
Public Interest Registry administers .org under ICANN. Of the three big gTLDs (.com, .net, .org), .org has historically attracted the strongest civil-society pushback against any registrar action, and PIR's published abuse policy is more nuanced than Verisign's. That does not make .org anonymous, but it does mean .org tends to survive content-related complaints better than .com when WHOIS privacy is in place and crypto payment closes the trail.

Why .org for Privacy-Sensitive Projects
Activist groups, censorship-resistance projects, harm-reduction information services, federation operators and small nonprofits often need a credible .org identity that the public recognizes without paying a tax in personal exposure. PIR's policy framework distinguishes content-based complaints (which they route to legal process) from technical abuse (phishing, malware), giving legitimate operators more procedural air.
That said, PIR is still bound by ICANN data accuracy rules. The honest .org privacy stack is the same as .com: WHOIS privacy, crypto payment, registrar shield, and you keep your real identity inside the registrar's CRM, not on the public record.
Crypto Payment for .org
We accept Bitcoin, Monero and Lightning. Many of the activist and harm-reduction groups we host specifically prefer Monero because their donors expect privacy parity from the operator. We do not require any KYC for the domain itself.
If your project has a treasurer who needs an invoice for accounting, we issue one in the project's legal name. Otherwise no invoice is issued and no name beyond the registrar record exists in our billing system.
DNS, Email and the Other Layers
.org operators frequently want a published abuse contact email at the domain. We recommend a self-hosted Mailcow or Mailu deployment on a VPS in the same offshore stack so the inbox does not sit on Gmail or Microsoft 365 where subpoenas are routine. Our anonymous hosting plans are sized for this.
Trademark Sunrise and UDRP Reality
.org has a UDRP process identical in shape to .com. If you pick a name that is plausibly someone else's trademark, expect a complaint. We do not pre-screen names for trademark conflicts but we do flag obvious ones during the order review. Read our .org WHOIS privacy guide for the full procedural walk-through.
Pricing
.org runs around $14-17/yr at registry cost plus privacy. Order at domains, pay in crypto, provisioned in minutes. Pair with our Romania VPS or other anonymous hosting.
