Why Run Snowflake on a VPS
The Snowflake browser extension runs on volunteer machines but throughput is limited by browser-tab constraints (typically 10 concurrent client sessions per tab). Running snowflake-proxy as a server-side daemon on a VPS removes those constraints. One VPS can host multiple concurrent Snowflake proxy instances pushing collective gigabits of circumvention traffic.
Configuration
# Run snowflake-proxy as a daemon
snowflake-proxy -capacity 50 -relay wss://snowflake.torproject.net/ -broker https://snowflake-broker.torproject.net/Capacity 50 means up to 50 concurrent client sessions per proxy instance. Run multiple instances per VPS to scale linearly. The proxy makes outbound WebRTC connections only; no inbound ports need to be opened.
Abuse Exposure
Snowflake proxies do not act as exits. The proxy is an intermediate hop between the client (censored user) and the Snowflake bridge run by the Tor Project. From the proxy's perspective, only encrypted traffic to the bridge is visible. Effectively zero abuse exposure.
