Beyond the Tor network, several other anonymity networks provide access to their own hidden services:
- I2P (Invisible Internet Project): A peer-to-peer network focused on anonymous communication. Instead of .onion sites, I2P has "eepsites" (.i2p addresses). Excellent for peer-to-peer applications, anonymous email (I2P-Bote), and torrenting. Garlic routing (bundles multiple messages) vs. Tor's onion routing.
- Freenet: A decentralized, censorship-resistant platform for publishing and communication. Content is distributed across the network and persists even after the original publisher goes offline. Best for publishing content that must survive censorship attempts.
- Lokinet: Built on the Oxen blockchain, Lokinet uses a network of community-operated nodes (SNApps) for anonymous browsing. Faster than Tor for many use cases, with .loki addresses for hidden services.
- GNUnet: A framework for secure peer-to-peer networking. More experimental than Tor or I2P but offers strong privacy guarantees and decentralized file sharing.
