No-KYC VPS Hosting in Romania

'KYC' (Know Your Customer) is the regulatory framework that requires financial services and increasingly hosting providers to verify identity. In hosting, KYC typically means:

• Real name on the account (verified against payment method)
• Billing address (verified by some hosts via postal mail or document upload)
• Phone number (verified via SMS code)
• Sometimes: government ID upload, selfie verification, address-proof document

None of these apply at our company for crypto-paid Romania VPS:

• No real name required: Sign up as 'Anonymous User' if you want. We don't validate or care.
• No address required: Skip it or fill in random data. We don't ship anything to you.
• No phone: Email is the only contact method we use.
• No documents: We never request passport, driver's license, utility bills.
• No selfie verification: We don't have any face-recognition step in our flow.

Three reasons we don't do KYC, despite many regulators encouraging it:

• Legal: We aren't required to. Hosting providers in Romania don't have the same KYC obligations as banks or money services. We're hosting, not finance. EU directives explicitly exempt hosting from financial-grade KYC.
• Practical: Crypto removes chargeback risk. Banks and card processors require KYC because they're exposed to chargebacks - if a customer claims fraud, the merchant takes the loss. Crypto payments are final; no chargebacks. We don't need KYC to mitigate chargeback risk.
• Principled: Privacy is a product feature for us. Our customers value anonymity. Adding KYC undermines the product. Many of our customers come from hosting providers who started 'no KYC' then quietly added it - we won't be one of them.

The trade-off: we accept some risk that bad actors will sign up for our service. We mitigate this with content-level red lines (no CSAM, no terrorism, no direct threats) enforced manually on report, not preemptively via identity verification.

'No KYC' doesn't mean 'no rules'. We have a small set of universal prohibitions enforced regardless of jurisdiction:

• CSAM (child sexual abuse material): Zero tolerance. Universal red line. We immediately remove and report to NCMEC if discovered.
• Terrorism content: Material that promotes or facilitates terrorist acts. Removed on report.
• Direct credible threats of violence: Targeted at specific individuals. Removed on report.

Notably absent from this list: copyright infringement (we require court orders), 'hate speech' (we don't moderate viewpoints), 'misinformation' (we don't fact-check), gambling (legal jurisdiction-dependent), adult content (legal in EU), file-sharing (legal use cases dominate).

Our content policy is intentionally narrow. We host what's universally illegal, not what's locally controversial.

If you're operating in regulated industries (healthcare data, finance) you actually want KYC-full hosts because their compliance posture matches yours. For everyone else - especially privacy-conscious individuals, crypto users, journalists, activists, offshore commercial operators - no-KYC is the right pick.

Honest take on what no-KYC actually protects against:

• Helps against: random data leaks (we have less data to leak), passive surveillance (no data trail to subpoena), commercial profiling (we don't sell your identity to ad networks because we don't have one), competitor intelligence gathering, journalistic exposes that try to dox specific customers.
• Doesn't help against: targeted state-level attackers with subpoena power for IP-level traffic logs (we minimize logs but can't claim zero-knowledge of network metadata), forensic analysis if law enforcement physically seizes a server with persistent state, sophisticated correlation attacks tying your real identity to crypto payments through other means.

If your threat model is 'I don't want random people to know I'm running this VPS', no-KYC is sufficient. If your threat model is 'I'm targeted by a state actor with significant resources', no-KYC is necessary but not sufficient - you need to combine it with Tor access, careful crypto privacy, and operational security around the workload itself.
