Vanity Onion Address Generation VPS
Vanity v3 onion addresses (custom prefixes like anubizXXXX...onion) require brute-forcing Ed25519 keypairs until the public key encodes the desired prefix. mkp224o is the standard tool; long prefixes take significant CPU/GPU time. Time-to-Find by Prefix Length
v3 addresses use base32 (32 possible characters per position). Each additional prefix character multiplies search space by 32x. Approximate single-core CPU times: 4 chars seconds, 6 chars minutes, 8 chars hours, 10 chars days, 12 chars years. GPUs accelerate by 50-100x.
Tooling
mkp224o is the standard CPU generator. CUDA forks exist for NVIDIA GPUs. We provide both preinstalled. Run as long as you need; copy the resulting hs_ed25519_secret_key off the VPS via SSH-over-Tor and decommission.
Security Caveat
The vanity key is generated on a VPS that we operate. For high-threat-model deployments do not use any vanity service (including ours) where the operator could log key material. Generate on hardware you physically control. We document this caveat openly.
For typical deployments where the threat actor is not the hosting provider, our vanity service is fine: we do not log key material, but you should not have to trust us to be safe.
